Fifth Grade

Fifth Grade Week 18 – December 15th – 19th       


This week at OUS...

***Christmas Party on Friday, Dec. 19th at 10:30.  There will be no lunch bunch on that
      day, and it will be a 60% day.  That will be the start of our Christmas Break.

***For those of you who would like to earn extra credit for the next nine weeks, I am  
      giving you the option of reading at least one new book that interests you and
      writing a summary on it in class when we get back to school.  

***We return to school on January 5th.

Reading- We will be reading the novel, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.  We will be watching the movie on Thursday.

English- We will be working on brain teasers and word puzzles that deal with the holiday season.  We will continue to do Daily Oral Language transparencies each day to review all of the language skills.

Spelling- Our spelling list this week will focus on words with the "sh" and "ch" sounds.  We will take our pre-test on Monday.  Our spelling test will be on Thursday.

Math- We will be working on holiday worksheets that review the basic math skills and, we will explore symmetry and logic.  We will also continue to do Daily Oral Math transparencies each day to review all of the math skills.  Please keep studying your multiplication facts.  

Science- We will continue Unit B- "Systems and Interactions in Nature".  We will start with Chapter 2- "Living Things Interact".

Social Studies- We will begin Unit 3- Colonial Life in America.  We will work on the concepts found in Chapter 6-Life in the English Colonies.  We will also complete a holiday geography worksheet.
