Senior Kindergarten

A Peek at This Week
*We've had a wonderful trip through Nursery Rhyme land as we read lot of familiar (and some new) rhymes.  On Tuesday we voted for Headmaster for the Day.  On Friday we celebrated the union of the two sounds Qq and Uu with a fun "wedding" ceremony that will help make this spelling rule more memorable.  We also had a visit from author Hayden Hooper on Friday.
*In math we continued working on money.  Please continue to reinforce identifying and counting coins at home.
*We've started practicing for our upcoming Veteran's Day program, our Thanksgiving program, and our Christmas program.........Boo, Gobble, Ho Ho Ho!!

Looking Ahead
*Next week we will learn about Veterans and  Thanksgiving.    In math we will begin our chapter on measurement using standard and non standard units.  We will continue to practice for our upcoming programs.  Your child will need to wear tan or brown pants and shirts for the Thanksgiving play.  Dresses are ok too.  Remember if you can't find brown you can always dye them.
*Also, your child will need a picket sign for the Thanksgiving play.  Please make a sturdy, lightweight picket sign for your child to carry in the play.   We have the title role in our Thanksgiving play, "The Turkeys Go on Strike!" and each child will need to carry a picket sign urging the audience to eat something else for Thanksgiving.  Eat Chicken!  Have some Squash! Be a Vegetarian!  Anything you can come up with will be fine.  Use a dowel or yardstick and either foam core board (available at walmart) or two sheets of posterboard glued together.  (One sheet of posterboard is too flimsy and won't stand up.) Please send them to school before Monday, November 17 so we can practice with the signs.

Reminders and Miscellaneous

Please label your child's jackets and sweaters with their name or initials.  They all look alike!!!

Thanks to Missy Wilson for providing donuts and a story on Tuesday for Lucy's Star Student weeks.  Also thanks to Missy for the new electric pencil sharpener!!

Homework this week: Learn five Native American sign language motions and come up with your very own special Native American name.  Examples: "Little Brown Feather,"  "Brave Bear," "Tender Heart,"  "Rising Sun."

Just a friendly reminder about the uniforms:  Only blue leggings are allowed not white or black or pink sparkly.  :-)

Please have your child wear their "dress" uniform on Tuesday as we will be performing during the Veterans Day Program and also on Wednesday for Picture Day.
