SpanishThe Spanish curriculum at Oxford University School teaches students basic comprehension and communication skills, demonstrated by verbal and non-verbal responses. It further increases cultural awareness of Spanish-speaking countries through glimpses of physical landscapes and social settings, projected by audio and visual media and teacher directed lessons. The curriculum is sequential in design, building and reinforcing skills from pre-school to upper elementary grades, vocabulary and comprehension through repetition, TPR and enrichment activities. The curriculum centers on the PEACHSTAR Education Services through Georgia Public Broadcasting series SALSA, a video-based program consisting of forty-two segments designed to be viewed several times each. Theses videos are interwoven with oral, visual, and hands-on activities to introduce and develop ever-increasing vocabulary and comprehension skills. Methods include singing, role-playing, games, and activities to reinforce and build skills. Simple question and answer, basic directions and description are begun and emphasized in the early grades. Basic reading and writing skills are introduced in the upper elementary grades. |
